Statement on Salt Lake County Council Mask Mandate

We are pleased to hear that the Salt Lake County Council will not take a vote to overturn the countywide 30-day mask order. Masks are one of the common sense steps we can take to slow the spread of the omicron variant through our community. We would especially like to thank council chairwoman Laurie Stringham for acknowledging that “N95 and KN95 masks are a proven protection from the virus” and join her in calling for schools and government bodies to distribute these masks widely. We are hopeful that this measure will help preserve hospital space and protect our healthcare professionals, teachers, and other vital workers. We condemn those who are calling for violence in opposition to this temporary and evidence-backed public health measure. We encourage all to rise above partisan divisiveness and treat each other with civility as we come together to protect our neighbors.
